Pre & Post Advice

  • Pre Advice

*If you have existing permanent makeup that's been carried out by another artist, please contact Laura before booking an appointment.

    *You must be 18+

*Avoid any blood thinning medications, like aspirin or ibuprofen before your appointment. DO NOT discontinue any prescribed medications before consulting your doctor.

*2-3 weeks leading up to your appointment avoid using products with ingredients, such as Retinol, Retinol A, Hyaluronic Acid, Lytic Acid, Vitamin C & E, AHA, Glycolic Acid or Exfoliants.

Sensitivity and Thinning... Retinol, Retin-A, AHA, Glycolic Acid: These ingredients are known to increase cell turnover, which can lead to thinner, more sensitive skin. Thinner skin is more prone to irritation, inflammation, and increased bleeding during the procedure. This can affect the precision of the work and the final outcome.

Increased Risk of Irritation... Lytic Acid, AHA, Exfoliants: These products are exfoliating agents that remove the top layers of the skin. When the skin is freshly exfoliated, it's more susceptible to irritation and can react to the tattooing process, potentially leading to more discomfort and longer healing times.

Impaired Pigment Retention... Retinol, Vitamin C, Vitamin E: These ingredients can increase skin cell turnover and regeneration, which might cause the skin to shed the tattooed pigment faster than desired. This can result in uneven pigmentation or the need for more frequent top ups.

Altered Skin Healing... Hyaluronic Acid: While hyaluronic acid is generally beneficial for hydration, in the context of permanent makeup, it could overly hydrate the skin, making it more delicate and prone to irritation. The altered hydration level could affect how the skin heals and how the pigment settles in your skin.

Enhanced Bleeding and Bruising... Vitamin E: This vitamin has a mild blood-thinning effect, which can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising during the procedure, similar to the effects of fish oil. Excessive bleeding can dilute the pigment and cause uneven healed results.

*Avoid taking fish oils 1-2 weeks leading up to your appointment. Fish oil can have a mild blood-thinning effect, which may increase the risk of bleeding and bruising during the procedure.

*You should stop using eyelash and eyebrow growth serums before receiving permanent makeup because these products often contain ingredients like prostaglandin analogs, which stimulate hair growth by increasing blood flow to the area. This increased circulation can lead to several issues during and after the permanent makeup procedure:

Excessive Bleeding: The increased blood flow caused by growth serums can make the skin more prone to bleeding during the tattooing process, which can dilute the pigment and make it harder for the colour to settle properly.

Increased Sensitivity: Growth serums can make the skin around the eyebrows and eyelashes more sensitive and prone to irritation, leading to discomfort during the procedure and a longer healing time.

Poor Pigment Retention: The overactive circulation may prevent the pigment from fully embedding into the skin, leading to uneven or faded results that may require additional touch-ups.

Increased Risk of Infections: Prolonged healing time and potential irritation can increase the risk of infection if aftercare is not meticulously followed.

For best results, stop using these serums at least 2-4 weeks before your permanent makeup appointment.

*Avoid Alcohol and drugs 48hrs before your appointment, to reduce the risk of increased bleeding, sensitivity, interference with aesthetics/numbing and reduce the risk of compromising the healed results.

*If you have any medical conditions or take regular medication please contact Laura ASAP to inform her ahead of your appointment. Some medical conditions and medications could prohibit you receiving your treatment.

*Please be aware that the National Blood Service does not accept donations of blood for 4 months after having a tattoo.

*Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Ideally you will need to wait at least 4 to 6 months after having a baby before getting permanent makeup. This allows your body to recover from childbirth and stabilize hormonal changes. Childbirth and postpartum recovery can weaken the immune system, making the body more susceptible to infection or slower healing. Your hormones fluctuate significantly during and after pregnancy which can lead to sensitive skin. If you are breastfeeding, it’s essential to wait until you are done breastfeeding to avoid potential risks of infection.

*Avoid the sun, I cannot tattoo sun damaged skin.

*Avoid any tinting, lifting or lamination treatments on your brows or lashes 2 weeks before your treatment. This can make it hard to determine the correct colour.

*Drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment to keep your skin well hydrated.

*Electrolysis, IPL laser hair removal should be performed 2-3 weeks before your appointment.

*Avoid Botox and Fillers 2-3 weeks before & after your treatment.

*Avoid professional chemical peels, microneedling or led light therapy treatments 1 month prior to your treatment.

*Avoid waxing and threading near the treatment area for 1-2 week before your treatment.

    Post Advice

*Avoid swimming & hot tubs (chlorinated water) chlorine can prematurely fade pigment, especially when it's fresh or healing. It can also cause irritation and risk of infection, so it's important to avoid chlorinated water for the 2 weeks of healing.

*Avoid sun exposure for 2-3 weeks after your treatment to avoid premature fading, discolouration, irritation and prolonged healing.

*Avoid Itching & picking, this can compromise the healed results of your enhancement.

*It can take up to 10-14 days for your enhancement to fully heal, please care for your tattoo as advised.

*No sweating during the 2 week healing process, this can compromise the healed results.

*Avoid applying make-up near your enhancement during the 2 week healing process to avoid the risk of premature fading and infection.

    Eyeliner....

*Avoid using Eyelash growth products for 3 months leading up to your appointment.

*False lashes should be removed 1 week before your appointment, do not reapplied for 2-3 weeks after your appointment. Please keep in mind you will need a top up 6 weeks after your first treatment.

*Do not wear contact lenses during or immediately after your appointment. Remember to bring your glasses. You wear contact lenses 24 hours after the procedure, providing there is no swelling.

    Lip....

*Avoid lip fillers at least 2-3 weeks before your treatment.

*Cold Sores - Herpes simplex virus lies dormant within your system. If you have EVER suffered with a cold sore in the past you will need to take oral medication 3-4 days before your appointment and 4-5 days after treatment. This also applies to your fine tune treatment and any future colour boost appointments on your lips.
